이번에 소개할 band은 그다지 유명하지는 앓은 우리의 Ten Years After. 일단 헤깔리는거는 한글로 어떻에 쓰는걸까요? 태그를 쓸여니 한글로 '텐 이어스 애프터'와 '텐 이어즈 애프터' 두 태그가 tistory애서 뜨드라고요. 어떤게 정답인지... 아마 '스'가 맞지않을까요? 어디서 '즈' 사운드가 나는지 솔직히 저는 몰르겠어요. 아니면, 미국인이면 '이얼스'가 더 올바른 선택이라고 할까요? 아무렇게도 관게없는거에 내가 너무 집착하는 걸지도...
Last.fm 이라는 인터넷 레디오 프로그렘을 쓰다가 우연히 발견한 band인데요, 한번 드러본 후 즉시 album을 구할 정도로 마음에 드러버렸어요. (참고로 Last.fm 엄청 좋아요. 한번 써보세요. 더 자세한 설명은 다른 포스팅에 하죠.) 월래 블루스 사운드가 강한 60년대 밴드인대 이 노래는 부드럽고 60년 중후반 멜로디 스타일을 따라갔어요. 가사도 참 마음에 드렀어요. 텐 이어스(?)/이어즈(??)/이얼스(???) 애프터가 마음에 드신 분들은 꼭 더 많은 분들에게 소개해주세요.
It is always exciting when you discover a new favourite band. You tend think to yourself, "Well! This group is excellent! I won't ever find another band quite like it." Out of pure chance, I heard 'I'd Love to Change The World' while listening to a random assortment music from Last.fm. For those outside of the U.S. and the U.K., Last.fm is an internet radio service which uses data pulled from your own digital music library to provide a customized radio station which suits your tastes. There also exists the option to listen to stations made by other users as well as stations made by Last.fm from their own library collection. (My experience with Last.fm warrants a separate entry entirely devoted to talking about its merits and even some of its flaws.)
I was quickly taken in by this song with its almost floating quality. It is uncharacteristic for the band as well, since this song is removed from the blues sound preferred in most of their other music. The song is deceivingly gentle in melody but the lyrical content captures a sentiment I find prevalent in my generation. A generation for which irresponsibility and jaded attitude is fashionable, the kind of bitter-sweet resignation sung about by Ten Years After should resonate with my peers. Perhaps that is why I have taken to the song myself.
Nothing outside of their album 'Space in Time' is widely listened to, unfortunately. I hope to write about their lesser-known songs at a later time, particularly for my Korean audience.
